DIMITRIS G. PAPADOPOULOS, MD, CPO

Scientific Director of SPONDYLOS Laser Spine Lab
Born in 1958, in Athens, he studied at the Medical School of the 1st University of Rome, La Sapienza, from where he graduated with the grade of “excellent” in 1983.
In 1980 he was an internal sub-assistant in the 3rd Orthopedic clinic of the 1st University of Rome La Sapienza, where until 1983 he worked in the biomechanical laboratory of the clinic as well as the National Research Institute of Rome, completing the design of a special total hip endoprostheses.
In 1981 he observed the work in the Orthopedic clinic at Stony Brook University of the U.S.A.
In 1986 he began his specialization, initially in the 2nd Orthopedic clinic of the KAT Athens Accident Hospital, where he was trained in traumatology
and then in 1987 in the 5th Orthopedic clinic,
where he was trained in spine conditions in the Scoliosis department.
When he completed his specialization in 1990, he was follow the work at the University clinic of the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital in London.
In the same year he worked at the Hygea Hospital
In 1992 he created the Spine conditions department at the “Iatriko” Athens Medical Center.
and in 1993 he created “Orthopaedic Diagnosis“, the first specialized sub specialty practice for orthopedic conditions in Athens.
In 1994 he founded “BIO Orthopaedics“, a company dealing with specialized orthopedic constructions and mobility rehabilitation.
The scope of his work was to study the condition of every patient and, in cooperation with the technical department, design and construct the suitable aid for this patient.
In 1999 he passed the entry examinations to the Technician Orthopedics School of the 2nd University of Rome, Tor Vergata, where he was taught the mechanics of the constructions by professors of the Polytechnic School of Rome, as well as the construction and application of orthopedic aids.
He graduated in 2002 with excellent grades.
In 2000 he organized in Athens the first (and only so far) conference amputations and prostheses. For the needs of the conference, 10 foreign delegates from different countries invited and hosted.
In 2006 he organized and developed SPONDYLOS Laser Spine Lab, specialized in Spine conditions and the construction of scoliosis and Kyphosis braces.
His credits include extensive research work, mainly in brace biomechanics and mobility rehabilitation of amputees.
He has written the main biomechanics chapters in 3 books by professor G. Sapkas, and has completed two pre-graduate theses on Total hip Arthroplasty and Myoelectric Prostheses.
He writes in scientific journals and present regulary pappers in Greek and International conferences on his documented views concerning issues he has specialized in.

He is member of the Athens Medical Association, a regular member of H.A.O.S.T (the Hellenic Association of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology), of the spine department of H.A.O.S.T., of the Greek Spine Association, of I.S.P.O. (International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics) and SOSORT(International Society on Scoliosis Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Treatment)
To date he is scientific director of SPONDYLOS Laser Spine Lab.
